Is Orient Name free?
Yes, for the first layer. You get six complete Chinese names with meaning, sound and reasoning, without signing up. The full reading — birth chart, five-dimension scoring, a printable poster, a PDF report and a chart data file — is $9.90, one time, for one birth date. Nothing renews.
Do I need to know my birth time?
No. The free names need only your family name, or nothing at all. A birth time is only used by the optional birth-chart layer, which needs a date, a time and a place.
Where do the meanings come from?
From a corpus, not from a language model's memory. Character senses are documented, and the quotations on each character page are checked character-for-character against a 437,290-line classical corpus at build time. If a quotation does not match, the site refuses to deploy. When no quotable line exists for a character, the page says so instead of inventing one.
Do you use AI?
For writing explanations, yes. For selecting and scoring names, no — that is a deterministic rule engine over the character library, the phonotactics and the frequency data. The same input gives the same result, which is why the scores are reproducible.
Is the birth chart fortune-telling?
It is a traditional reading, applied by stated rules, and it is not a prediction of your future. It is offered because many people want their Chinese name to fit that tradition, not because we claim it changes anything. Every report says this in its own words.
Can I choose the character I want in my name?
Yes. Give a preferred character and the generator will build names around it, or tell you honestly that it cannot make a good name from it.
Will Chinese speakers find the name strange?
That is the main thing this site exists to prevent. Candidate names are checked against 1.14 million real Chinese names to see whether the combination actually occurs, and against 621 documented sound-alike hazards — the homophones that turn a lovely name into an unfortunate one in daily speech.
Can I use the name legally?
Names are not copyrightable, and you are free to use the name we give you. Registering it officially depends on the rules of the country where you register it; we do not handle registration and cannot guarantee acceptance by any authority.
What happens to my birth date and time?
It is stored so that your report can be generated and re-downloaded, and so that a returning visit can find its results. It is not sold and not shared with advertisers. You can have it deleted by writing to us; the privacy policy lists exactly what is kept for payment and tax reasons.
What is the refund policy?
An unlock you have not spent can be refunded. Once a birth date has been unlocked and the report has been generated and emailed, that date counts as delivered and is not refundable. The full rules are on the pricing page.
Which languages does the site support?
The interface exists in English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Arabic and more. Reports and PDFs are delivered in English for now — the Arabic interface says so explicitly rather than pretending otherwise.
Why is it called Orient Name?
The direction the naming tradition comes from, not a claim about the East. The studio was previously called Chinese Name Studio; the name is shorter, and the old name still appears in the site's structured data so that older links keep pointing at the same place.
